As of December 6th, 2010, I became the Principal of SSIS – XuHui Campus, assuming responsibility from my predecessor, Mr. Chin Leong Toh. Prior to my appointment here, I was the Deputy Principal at SSIS – MinHang Campus. I am delighted to be here at XuHui and am truly enjoying becoming acquainted with the students, parents, and staff associated with this campus.
I am finding this campus to be a true “community” in the sense that the teachers really know all the students and interact with almost all of them on a daily basis. From greeting students at the doorways in the morning when they arrive, to announcements in the mornings as we gather in the Auditorium, to supervision during lunch and during the playtime, teachers are always around to interact, guide, and have fun with our XuHui family!
The academic progress of each student is very important to our staff. Please be assured that if a student seems to need more help in a certain area, we will make sure that they get the support they need. Home and school communication is strongly encouraged and supported as we know that “it takes a village to raise a child.” In other words, both school and home environments are very important in ensuring that students continue to move forward in positive ways.
We also value a safe environment – one that is free from violence of any type. When students have disagreements, we encourage them to “use their words,” not their fists to hit or their legs to kick! We also teach them that if their words don’t work, they are to get an adult who will help them to solve and resolve whatever problems they are facing. We really encourage the students to know that we are here for that purpose and we want them to engage us, particularly when they need special assistance.
Our programs are also important to us. We are very proud of our strong Mandarin language program, our Chinese orchestra, and our choir. The Chinese culture is celebrated as the students gain knowledge and appreciation for our host country and the many splendors of its century old history. We are also proud of offering the Singaporean curriculum, which has maintained a strong reputation throughout the world – especially in Math and Science. We stay connected to current trends in Singapore by sending teachers to Singapore each summer vacation to learn about the changes taking place there. This year we also hosted about 40 Principals from Singapore for a day who were on an excursion touring educational venues in China. The opportunity for us to interchange directly with them was very exciting and enlightening.
We are committed to providing a quality educational experience for all our students at SSIS.
Thank you for choosing us and entrusting us with your child’s learning journey.
