| September 1996 | Founded and invested by the Prime Group International, SSIS started its first campus on Shanghai SunIsland with 18 expatriate students and 9 teachers, recruited from Singapore and locally. With official approval from the Ministry of Education, PRC, SSIS was officially opened on 3rd September 1996 with the Singapore Teachers' Union providing consultancy. |
| February 2001 | With 74 students and 25 teachers, SSIS took a major and significant step in relocating to our current MinHang Campus on JiDi Road in Minhang District, ZhuDi Town. |
| September 2001 | To provide continuum in education, our secondary school was set up, turning SSIS into a one-stop full school catering for all age groups from pre-school to secondary and high school. |
| May 2003 | SSIS received authorisation by the International Baccalaurate Organisation to offer the IB Middle Years Programme. |

| September 2003 | To meet the demands of a growing enrolment, our second campus, XuHui Campus, was built on HuaJing Road in XuHui District. The school started with 146 students in September 2003. |

SSIS received authorisation by the International Baccalaurate Organisation to offer the IB Diploma Programme. |
| September 2006 | SSIS celebrated her 10th anniversary in Shanghai with a brand new campus in MinHang. All MinHang students moved into our new home for the new academic year 2006/2007. |

| February 2008 | SSIS is appointed the first iPSLE centre in China by the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) under the Ministry of Education(MOE), Singapore. |
| June 2009 | SSIS received recognition as the approved teaching institution for the IGSCE edexcel. |
| July 2010 | SSIS received full accreditation from the Council of International Schools (CIS) and National Centre for Curriculum and Textbooks (NCCT). |
