When Education Embraces Life

Love is the foundation which Shanghai Singapore International School (SSIS) is built upon. In the early 1990s, it was a challenge to provide quality education for my two daughters when my wife and I planned to relocate them over to Shanghai. SSIS is the answer to the problem and our school bells rang for the very first time in 1996, my fourth year in Shanghai. I believe it is our common aspiration as expatriate parents to provide the best education opportunities for our children. To nurture the young with love, ensuring that they grow up with healthy body, heart and mind, has always been our goal.

Education forms the basis of what we do at Prime Group International. It is our key driver for sustainability. To strive for sustainability, our corporate philosophy of Taisheng upholds the core values of ‘Symbiosis, Sharing and Harmony’, insists that we focus on the principles to address human concerns, environmental awareness, social engagements and economical viability.

Our education philosophy advocates an orientation towards life, emphasizing the awareness, respect and love for life as the purpose of education. While cultivating a ‘greater love’ for life, the knowledge and skills our students derive from the process of education are applied towards the betterment of the human race and society in their later lives. This is the reason why we have extended their learning beyond their classroom to the farm, to experience the joy, and the understanding of intrinsic values through the harvesting of their hard work. Through this, we hope that they will deepen their respect for nature and their love for mankind.

We are pleased to see that the school has grown over the past 20 years, from 18 students and 9 teachers, to a community with 1300 students, and 200 teachers on two campuses. All this would not be possible without everyone’s passion and commitment to good education. As the old Chinese saying goes, ‘It takes ten years to grow trees but a hundred years to educate people’. There is still a long way ahead, let’s continue to work together to provide our children with the best education possible.
