It is the Lantern Festival (Yuan Xiao Jie) today!

The Lantern Festival is a traditional Chinese festival celebrated on the fifteenth day of the Chinese lunar month. It is a festival that brings about family union and happiness.

Eating glutinous rice balls (Tang Yuan) is one of the things people traditionally do during the Lantern Festival. Tang Yuan sounds similar to Tuan Yuan which literally means “reunion” and hope for happiness and better future in life.

To celebrate the festival, SSIS Minhang primary students had a hands-on experience of making lanterns and Tang Yuan. The Tang Yuan that were made signify the happiness and well wishes of our students for themselves and everyone!

SSIS sincerely wishes you a Happy Lantern Festival.
