We recently recognised one student per month in all 25 primary school classes who showed outstanding care, which was our I4C theme for February. Care at SSIS includes self-care such as brushing one’s teeth, maintaining one’s good hygiene, and managing one’s emotions. Care is also about being kind to others and our teachers saw many examples of this in February. These students were often seen going out of their way to help new students adapt to SSIS and make new friends. Teachers noticed how care could be shown in small but important ways such as letting other students take their turn first in using classroom materials such as scissors or the glue stick. Many students displayed care by being aware of others’ feelings and noticing facial expressions and body language – these are important skills in the development of emotional intelligence where research had shown that it plays a large role in success in life. Bravo to our February care winners!
