The Shanghai Singapore International School (SSIS) was established in 1996 to provide quality international education to children of expatriate families in Shanghai. Its ﬁrst campus was set up in 1996 at the Sun Island Golf Resort in Shanghai’s QingPu District with only 18 students and 9 teachers.
To meet the needs of its expanding student enrollment, the school relocated to the MinHang Campus at ZhuDi Road in MinHang District in 2001. With its growing recognition from expatriate families, a second campus was set up in the XuHui District in 2003 to bring the unique SSIS education one step closer to families residing in the heart of the city, especially those from the PuDong District. In 2006, SSIS celebrated its 10th anniversary with a brand new campus in the MinHang District. With a land area of 64,000m2 and state-of-the-art facilities, the MinHang Campus caters to the learning needs of our young future global citizens.
SSIS started its first campus on Shanghai SunIsland with 18 expatriate students and 9 teachers, recruited from Singapore and locally. With official approval from the Ministry of Education, PRC, SSIS was officially opened on 3rd September 1996 with the Singapore Teachers’ Union providing consultancy.
With 74 students and 25 teachers, SSIS took a major and significant step in relocating to our current MinHang Campus on JiDi Road in Minhang District, ZhuDi Town.
To provide continuum in education, our secondary school was set up, turning SSIS into a one-stop full school catering for all age groups from preschool to secondary and high school.
SSIS received authorisation by the International Baccalaureate Organisation to offer the IB Middle Years Programme.
To meet the demands of a growing enrollment, our second campus, XuHui Campus, was built on HuaJing Road in XuHui District. The school started with 146 students in September 2003.
SSIS received authorisation by the International Baccalaurate Organisation to offer the IB Diploma Programme.
SSIS celebrated her 10th anniversary in Shanghai with a brand new campus in MinHang. All MinHang students moved into our new home for the new academic year 2006/2007.
SSIS received full accreditation from the Council of International Schools (CIS) and National Centre for Curriculum and Textbooks (NCCT).
SSIS received authorization by the Cambridge International Examinations to offer the IGCSE programme.
SSIS becomes the first school in China to offer IB Career-related Programme.
SSIS celebrates it’s 20th anniversary.
