What Should I do if I have a Positive NAT Result?

What Should I Do if I or a family member have a Positive NAT Result?

We have been informed that a few students and staff from other schools have tested positive for Covid-19, and they are required to conduct centralised quarantine by the Chinese Center for Disease Control (CCDC). We would like to share these experiences and information with you in the hope that this can help you and your family.

Step 1: Do not panic

Prepare your and your child’s personal information (translate to Chinese if you can) beforehand just in case. Please check the sample Personal Information Card below.

• Discovering you have a positive NAT result can undoubtedly be a source of stress and panic. If you find yourself in this situation, it is best to take a deep breath and begin by focusing on what is within your control at this moment.

• You will either be informed of your positive NAT result through the Health Cloud App or through a phone call from the CCDC (Chinese Center for Disease Control). The CCDC representative will inform you that you have tested positive and will need to prepare your items as you will likely be transported to a centralised quarantine location.

• At present, there may likely be a 12–72-hour wait period between the time you have received a call from CCDC and the time you are picked up and transported to centralised quarantine.

Step 2: Email your child’s form teacher, the divisional principal and Campus Safety team (campus-safety@ssis.asia)

*** Kindly be reminded that if your child is not in Shanghai now, please email your child’s form teacher, division principal and the Campus Safety team (email address above for your reference). The Campus Safety team will contact you and provide appropriate guidance.
Step 3: Contact your consulate/embassy

• If you or your child have tested positive for COVID-19, contact the consulate or embassy either via email or phone to seek for help. When connecting with your consulate, ensure that you have provided your address in Shanghai, your passport number, your mobile phone number, as well as your emergency contact information (contact information of a family member or friend). If you have family members, ensure their information is provided as well. Click on this link for the list of consulates in Shanghai.

Step 4: Pet owners should contact their designated pet caregiver as soon as possible

• If you have a pet (or several), connect with your designated pet caregiver and do your utmost to have your pet(s) picked up prior to the arrival of the CCDC.

• Ensure your pet caregiver has the necessary documentation and supplies that your pet(s) will need for a period of 2-3 weeks. Click on this link of resources which provide a good overview of how to ensure your pet(s) are cared for in the event you go to centralised quarantine.

Step 5: Begin to prepare for centralised quarantine

• It is likely you will not be provided with information on your centralised quarantine location, as well as the conditions of the site. For this reason, it is best to ensure you are well prepared for the experience. Attached is a list of items to consider, though the suggestion has been conveyed to pack as light as you are able to, given the potential of transferring locations, pack what you feel will support you the best during your quarantine period.

• For individuals with light symptoms, the expected stay in the centralised location is approximately 6-7 days. For those who require more medical care, the number of days will correspondingly increase.

Important

  • Passports or any other identity documents
  • Charging cables (and maybe a power strip for simultaneous device charging)

Other things to pack include food, daily necessities, personal toiletries, clothes and entertainment options, including kid-friendly reminders. For a detailed packing list, please click on this link for the Packing List.

Step 6: Double check you have everything that you need and try to relax as you wait for the CCDC to arrive.

• Given that you may have a 12-72-hour period between when the CCDC will arrive to transport you to centralised quarantine, ensure you are packed with all the items you will need.

• Once you have completed packing, try to rest, and relax as much as possible and mentally prepare for the journey ahead. Assuming your preference is to request remaining in your own home or accompanying with your child (if only your child tested positive), please convey your request to the CCDC staff in a calm manner.

Step 7: Connect with others

• During this period, it is essential that you connect with the SSIS Counselling Team (counselling-team@ssis.asia) who will provide you with words of reassurance, encouragement, and ongoing support.

• Tens of thousands of individuals are currently in centralised quarantine in Shanghai and connecting with others to share experiences will reaffirm the fact that you are not alone in this process, as scary as it may be. Please click on the link for these Community Support resources.

While compiling this guide, we want to thank the schools that have shared their resources so that, as a community, all of us can benefit and be supported with the shared experiences thus far.

Greetings from SSIS Admissions Office!
