SSIS is an official Duke of Edinburgh (DoE) International Award Centre. One of the educational outcomes of a SSIS education is to prepare our graduates for the complex and multifaceted challenges that await them. Not only do we need knowledgeable young people, but also young people that are lifelong learnings and have the skills to adapt to new situations.
About DoE
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is an internationally recognised programme for young people, bringing together practical experiences and building life skills to equip them for life.
Doing the Award is a personal challenge and not a competition against others; it pushes young people to their personal limits and recognises their achievements. Since its launch over 60 years ago, the Award has inspired millions of young people to transform their lives.
There are four Sections of activities for all Award levels, plus a Residential Project for the Gold Award.
Voluntary Service: The Award encourages young people to spend time volunteering in their community, which both benefits others and contributes to their own growth and well-being.
Skills: The Award encourages the development of personal interests and practical and social skills
Physical Recreation: The Award encourages participation in sport and other physical activity for the improvement of health, wellbeing and fitness.
Adventurous Journey: The Award encourages a sense of adventure while undertaking a team journey or expedition.
Residential Projects (For Gold Award): The Residential Project offers Gold Award Participants unique experiences that truly broaden horizons and challenge their outlook.
