LIANG Meng Wai
I have been in the SSIS Nursery team since 2004. Before that, I
worked in a childcare centre, kindergarten and an international school in Singapore, where I'm from. My charges range from three- to six-year-olds.
Working with preschoolers is challenging and fulfilling work. I learn from the children while I'm teaching them, because children can show you things that you wouldn't think of; they will surprise you with what they know and have learned. As a preschool educator, I hope to support children in what they want to do, so that they can grow up and follow their dreams.
Singapore is a beautiful sunny island which has a wide variety of delicious food, and I love my hawker food. My other interests include walking, jogging, dancing and travelling.
Through my training in Early Childhood Education, I have come to realise that the pre-school years of a child's life are critical. It is the period where a strong foundation must be built, and the child's cognitive, physical, social and emotional domains are developed progressively. This will ensure that the child will grow up to maximise his or her potential and be a responsible global citizen. After I joined SSIS in 2005, the school has given me the platform to realise my beliefs.
Other than teaching in a school environment, I used to coach children and adults canoeing and to swim when I was working in Singapore. I love the sea as well as nature, and I will go paddle whenever I have the opportunity.
I was born and raised in the Philippines. My love for children led me to earn my Degree in Education in 2000 after obtaining my undergraduate Degree in Economics in 1987.
I have been teaching at SSIS since 2006. I love first grade because I know just where they're coming from and exactly where they need to go. I often visualise myself as a traffic enforcer in between two crossroads, making sure everyone's transition from end to end will be smooth flowing. This is mainly because I have experienced teaching Kindergarten, P1 and P2. Sprezzatura! a word that describes my teaching style…live life like a duck- flowing smoothly on the surface but paddling hard underneath.
I adore all the students I have taught. I am privileged to meet some of the most talented and amazing educators from different parts of the world. I feel like I have become a better teacher because of teachers' collaboration. Lastly, I feel valued by the school.
I have been working in Early Childhood education for more than 30 years. In Singapore, I started as an assistant teacher and took courses in NIE. I eventually became a supervisor of preschools for more than eight years. I joined SSIS in 2008 as a teacher, which I enjoyed the most.
I have gained new insights and many experiences with different batches of students and learnt how I could bring across my lessons more effectively. Every child is unique and requires different approaches. Early childhood is challenging, as the dynamics of the cohort changes yearly. I enjoy working with Preschool children, and I sincerely hope to provide a pleasant and enriching experience for the little ones.
Going on trips and having nice meals with friends will make my day. Cooking, baking, karaoke, fishing, watching movies/dramas, travelling, outings and bowling are some of my favourite activities when I have the luxury of time.
I was born, raised and educated in Singapore. I started working as an Early Childhood Educator in 2007. The love for educating children in various capacities grew over the years and has been rewarding. It was always a dream of mine to live and work in a foreign country and, I am thankful that this became a reality in 2012 when I joined SSIS.
I love teaching Preschoolers! My mission is to help children discover the joys of learning and to help each child develop a strong belief in his or her own ability to achieve. I want them to learn the importance of hard work and to have a sense of pride in doing their personal best. It is also important to me that my students appreciate and respect other people's differences.
My husband and I have two adorable daughters, Amber and Jemma, born in 2016 and 2019, respectively. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, going on vacations and spending time with my family.
I joined SSIS in 2012. I like the unity spirit of family togetherness. We all work towards our goals and philosophy of SSIS.
Quote from Earthscope Enterprise: “There is no greater accomplishment in our life than making positive difference in the mind of a child”.
I was teaching in an outdoor environment at the Ministry Of Education campsite in Singapore before I embarked my career in the field of Early Childhood Education. After 12 years of teaching and managing in Singapore preschools, I decided to move to Shanghai and join the big family of SSIS and its teaching team.

I also believe in the importance of building a positive home-school partnership; I strive to create an environment that will inspire curiosity, so I can motivate each child to take charge of their learning.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time outdoors, going on hikes or exploring the city.
I'm from the Philippines and have been teaching early years for over 20 years. After a few months of teaching in a special school, I focused my career in Early Years. I have taught as a Class teacher, Subject Specialist, and led a group of teachers as Head of Department.

I consider it a privilege, and I enjoy nurturing children's potential and offering opportunities for them to be the best versions of themselves every day. I give each child opportunities to develop their love for learning by encouraging them to grow as risk-takers and have accountability for their education. Through these, I hope that they will further enhance their skills through exploration, discovery and making connections between their learning and the world around them.
Enjoying music by playing the guitar is one of my favourite pastimes. I love the outdoors, and that includes lounging on the beach, exploring the water through diving, and just enjoying nature through walks. Much of my

I come from Shanghai and I joined SSIS in 2012. When I was in school, I often spent my non-school days teaching young children. The experience has made me fall in love with teaching. I have an optimistic outlook and enjoy being with kids. I believe that children should be “learning through play, and play through learning”. Therefore, in my class, I often plan games to enhance the children's learning. As the children have fun learning in class, I become their friend, and they would communicate with me freely. My days at SSIS is a learning journey for me as I strive to do better each day. I enjoy working in this big family. The philosophy of the school encourages a diversified teaching approach and all to work together as a family.

Doing so is key to developing an engaged and motivated lifelong learner. I was born and raised in Ottawa, Canada. I consider myself an energetic and passionate educator; I try my best to motivate, inspire and act as a leader. Students form the core of my teaching; I ensure their safety and well-being and care for their education in and out of the classrooms.
I enjoy working in a team and respect the opinion and values of my colleagues. As a teacher, I am positive, preventative and predictable with my students. I try to build positive relationships, trust and rapport with them, which I believe is integral to inspiring and teaching students.
I have extensive experiences as a youth worker, with over ten years working with the Rochester Height Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa. Being the manager of the club has made me more compassionate, resilient and community orientated. It makes me very proud that I was a role model to so many young people in the community, at a critical time in their life on their journey to success. If I can have a similar impact on my students, then I would have reached my goal and given my life more purpose and value.
I enjoy learning about Chinese culture while
I'm from the United States. I started my teaching career in New York, where I taught for four years and then moved to Costa Rica, where I began international teaching and remained there for two years. I have been in Shanghai since then, and this is my fourth year at SSIS.
I believe education is all about understanding the world around us and how we fit in it as kind, good people. The best teaching and learning is when students are at the centre, and the activities are getting them to think, discuss, listen and learn from each other.
I enjoy baking, cooking, going to new restaurants and, to balance that all out, I also enjoy running and exercising. I look forward to travelling with my husband and friends, and I am always ready to learn and play a new game.
I'm from Singapore. After graduation in 2010, I worked at Raffles Institution (formerly Raffles Junior College) as a GCE A Level Mathematics lecturer and teacher. My family relocated to Shanghai in 2016, and since then I've been teaching Mathematics in IGCSE and IB DP Mathematics courses at SSIS.
I feel that teaching is not just about the subject, and that the child should be the focus. I'm happy to work with the younger generation, helping them acquire the skills and knowledge they will need to succeed in the future. I strive to inspire and ignite their passion for learning, to help each student become a better person each day in their life-long journey.
Outside of school, I love travelling, reading, music and photography. I also volunteer in communities to promote reading to young children. My new hobbies now include chess and golf.

I was the Music/Band and Choir director at Brent International School Subic in the Philippines for 16 years. I believe that Music has the power to bring students together to create, perform and share their talents and gifts. I am inspired by seeing students explore and develop their musical potential, to become confident performers, musicians, creative leaders and collaborators. During my spare time I enjoy reading books, listening to, composing, arranging and playing music on a number of instruments. I am very excited to be teaching Music this year and am happy to be part of the SSIS community.

I have been working here since 2001. It is my great honor to be part of the SSIS team where the students are enthusiastic, the parents are supportive and the colleagues are hard-working. As a Chinese HOD and teacher at SSIS, I will try my best to build an environment for all the students to learn more about Chinese language and culture.
After graduation, I worked in a local school in Shanghai (where I'm from) as a Mandarin teacher for seven years. In the last 15 years, I've taught in various international schools in Shanghai as a Mandarin teacher, working with 10- to 18-year-olds.
I think the teacher's responsibility is to help students learn to solve problems. When students devote themselves to learning, they will be more focused and will learn better – it's crucial to cultivate my students' interests in studying. To improve the quality of my teaching, I employ effective teaching methods and materials that are the most suitable for my students.
Outside of school, I love cooking, reading, singing, running, yoga and travelling.
For two years I taught Mandarin Chinese to elementary as well as middle school students in America. I am excited to join the SSIS community – working together to teach Mandarin Chinese in an international environment. My hobbies include reading, travelling and playing the Erhu.
