SSIS Scholarships & Awards

SSIS celebrates more than 26 years of excellence and anticipates more successes in the years ahead. The school wants to recognise our students’ relentless effort in living up to the School Motto: “Strive for Excellence”.

The Shanghai Singapore International School is committed to supporting students with excellence, potential and talent in specific areas. Scholars are expected to enrich the school not only in their specialist area, but also across the school by upholding and embracing our ethos and core values. 

All scholarships and awards are open to new and existing SSIS students who demonstrate excellence and meet the eligibility criteria. 

The SSIS IBDP Scholarship is awarded to students entering Grade 11 and 12 on the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) at the start of each academic year in August. This scholarship recognises students who perform highly in their academic subjects and also exhibit academic excellence. Academic excellence may include but is not limited to enrichment projects, competitions and summer camps. 

There will be two tiers of scholarships awarded:

  • The Academic IBDP ‘Excellence’ Scholarship, which covers 295,000RMB of the tuition fees
  • The Academic IBDP ‘Merit’ Scholarship, which covers 100,000RMB of the tuition fees. 

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA  
  • Academic performance will be the primary determinant for the awarding of a scholarship although community involvement may also be taken into account.  
  • Excellent academic results (A*/A or 7/6) across a range of subjects.  
  • Evidence of lifelong learning and Scholarship beyond subject syllabi. This may include enrichment projects, competitions, summer camps etc. 
  • Quality of communication during interviews.  
  • Being in excellent standing in the SSIS Community.  
  • Scholarship holders are expected to achieve academic excellence at the end of Grade 11 to be eligible for the renewal of the scholarship in the second year of the IB Diploma Programme.  
  • All Grade 10 students may apply, and IGCSE results will be looked at before awarding any scholarships.  
  • Additional scholarships may be granted at any time during Grade 11 and Grade 12 at the discretion of the school.  
  • Ability to represent SSIS in and outside of school.
  • No discipline record.
     
SCHOLARSHIP RENEWAL  
  • Grade 11 scholarship holders who achieve academic excellence at the end of Grade 11 are eligible to request the renewal of their scholarship in Grade 12 of the IBDP.  
  • The Scholarship recipient must have successfully completed their Scholarship Initiative. 
  • The current scholarship holder has to submit a new application form with a new personal statement and references before the published dates. 
  • The scholarship holders will be informed of the status of their scholarship renewal before the new school year. 

The Scholarship recognises students that perform highly in their academic subjects and also exhibit academic excellence. Academic excellence may include but is not limited to enrichment projects, competitions and summer camps. This Scholarship is open to students entering grades 7 to grade 10. 

The scholarship covers 50,000RMB of tuition fees and will be awarded to students on a merit basis. The Scholarship is renewable at the end of each academic year based on the maintenance of high-performing academic achievement in representing SSIS and the wider community. 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA  
  • Academic performance will be the primary determinant for the awarding of a scholarship although community involvement may also be taken into account.  
  • Excellent (A*/A) academic results across a range of subjects.  
  • Evidence of lifelong learning and Scholarship beyond subject syllabi. This may include enrichment projects, competitions, summer camps etc. 
  • Quality of communication during interviews.  
  • Being in excellent standing in the SSIS Community.  
  • Scholarship holders are expected to achieve academic excellence at the end of each grade to be eligible for the renewal of the scholarship. 
  • Grade 6 students may apply for the Scholarship to start in grade 7. 
  • Additional scholarships may be granted at any time at the discretion of the school.  
  • Ability to represent SSIS in and outside of school.
  • No discipline record. 
SCHOLARSHIP RENEWAL  
  • Scholarship holders who achieve academic excellence at the end of each grade are eligible to request the renewal of their scholarship.

This Scholarship is open to students entering grades 7 to grade 12. The Athletics Scholarship is awarded to highly-talented individuals who possess outstanding sports achievements, meeting expectations for academic and community involvement. 

The scholarship covers 100,000RMB of tuition fees and will be awarded to a limited number of students on a merit basis. The Scholarship is renewable at the end of each academic year based on the maintenance of high sports achievement in representing SSIS and wider community involvement. 
 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA  
  • Performance in an area of athletics will be the primary determinant for the awarding of a scholarship although community and involvement and leadership may also be taken into account.  
  • Regular attendance and commitment to sport-specific training, competitions and season tournaments.  
  • Evidence of awards, leadership recognition or outstanding results.  
  • Must have an A or A* in Physical Education.  
  • Good academic results across a range of subjects. All results except for PE should be a C or above.  
  • Quality of communication during interviews.  
  • Being in excellent standing in the SSIS Community.  
  • Scholarship holders are expected to achieve excellence in an area of athletics when representing SSIS at the end of each academic year to be eligible for the continuation of the scholarship in the next academic year.  
  • The areas of athletics to be considered for the SSIS Athletics Scholarship will be decided by the school.  
  • Additional awards may be made at any time at the discretion of the school.  
  • Ability to represent SSIS in and outside of school.
  • No discipline record.  

This Scholarship is open to students entering grades 7 to grade 12. The Aesthetics Scholarship is awarded to highly-talented individuals who possess outstanding performance and arts achievements, meeting expectations for academic and community involvement.  

The scholarship covers 100,000RMB of tuition fees  and will be awarded to a limited number of students on a merit basis. The Scholarship is renewable at the end of each academic year based on the maintenance of high-performing aesthetic achievement in representing SSIS and the wider community. 
 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA  
  • Performance in an area of Aesthetics will be the primary determinant for the awarding of a scholarship although community and involvement and leadership may also be taken into account.  
  • Regular attendance and commitment to performances, competitions and events.  
  • Evidence of awards, leadership recognition or outstanding results.  
  • Must have an A or A* in Aesthetics classes.  
  • Good academic results across a range of subjects. All results except for Aesthetics should be a C or above.  
  • Quality of communication during interviews.  
  • Being in excellent standing in the SSIS Community.  
  • Scholarship holders are expected to achieve excellence in an area of Aesthetics when representing SSIS at the end of each academic year to be eligible for the continuation of the scholarship in the next academic year.  
  • The areas of Aesthetics to be considered for the SSIS Aesthetics Scholarship will be decided by the school.  
  • Additional awards may be made at any time at the discretion of the school.  
  • Ability to represent SSIS in and outside of school.
  • No discipline record.  

This Scholarship is open to students entering grades 7 to grade 12. The Technology and Innovation Scholarship, recognises students’ achievements, nurtures students’ passion, and commitment toward technology. The SSIS Technology Scholarship Award is given to tech-savvy individuals who possess outstanding technological achievements, embrace new technology as a learning tool, and harness technology to bring innovation and change to the community. 

The scholarship covers 100,000RMB of tuition fees and is subject to renewal at the end of each academic year based on the maintenance of high technology achievement in representing SSIS and community involvement. 
 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA  
  • Consistent initiative in purposeful, collaborative application of technology and/or innovation to create lasting beneficial solutions, tools, programmes, system, activity, or service for school, community, society.
  • Passion and commitment towards accomplishing goals  
  • Evidence of awards, leadership recognition or outstanding results.  
  • Good academic results across a range of subjects. All results should be C or above.  
  • Quality of communication during interviews.  
  • Being in excellent standing in the SSIS Community.  
  • The areas of technology to be considered for the SSIS Technology & Innovation Scholarship will be decided by the school.  
  • Additional awards may be made at any time at the discretion of the school.  
  • Ability to represent SSIS in and outside of school.
  • No discipline record.  

This Scholarship is open to students entering grade 7 to grade 12. The Leadership and Community Service Scholarship recognises students who display excellence in Leadership and service across all facets of SSIS life. 

Future Global Leader Attributes, service learning and contributions to the community are integral to SSIS model of education. We hope to identify and recognise students that promote global citizenry and use this Scholarship to encourage and motivate similarly inspiring behaviour among the student body. Our goal is for every SSIS student to develop the character, moral virtues and leadership qualities required to contribute positively to the wider community. 

The award covers 100,000RMB of the tuition fees and is renewable every year upon application process and criteria.  The qualifying students can be awarded for their efforts, initiative, and hard work in leadership and/or community service. The scholarship is renewable at the end of each academic year based on the maintenance of community involvement and leadership.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA  
  • Demonstrates excellence in leadership and/or community service at SSIS or in the local community.
  • Shows a record of involvement in extracurricular activities, community activities, charitable organizations, and other endeavours indicating significant leadership records and/or community service.
  • Regular attendance and commitment to activities, events and endeavours that show the candidates leadership and/or commitment to service.
  • Good academic results across a range of subjects. All results should be a C or above.  
  • Quality of communication during interviews.
  • Ability to represent SSIS in and outside of school.
  • No discipline record. 
  • Scholarship holders who have continued to achieve excellence throughout the academic year are eligible to request the renewal of their scholarship in the next academic year.
  • The Scholarship Renewal has to be submitted to the respective Director/Coordinator or Divisional Principal.
  • The current scholarship holder has to submit the required application form without the personal statement and references before the published dates.
  • The scholarship holders will be informed on the status of their scholarship renewal on the last school day.

EXPECTATIONS OF SCHOLARS 

Our scholars are role models in all areas of school life and they always lead by example. Their diligence and conscientious approach in school have a positive influence on others around them, and their support for their peers is highly valued.

We expect all scholars to go beyond the confines of the syllabus and to participate in Clubs and Societies that stretch and challenge them beyond the limits of the examined curriculum and without the bounds of normal subject disciplines.

They are expected to act as role models and, through their passion, efforts and achievements, to encourage their peers to develop ever-higher levels of academic, aesthetic, athletic, innovation, leadership motivation and ambition.  

All scholarship holders are expected to plan, implement and evaluate a Scholarship initiative of their choice. Scholars will be provided a mentor and have regular check-ins with the Senior School Principal to evaluate the progress of their initiative.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Scholarship/Award applications by currently enrolled SSIS students must be fully completed and submitted by the published deadline below.
  • Students applying as a new enrolment to SSIS may apply for a Scholarship/Award prior to enrolment.
  • A fully completed Application Form, and including: (see Application Process below)
    • A copy of school reports, certificates and/or transcripts.
    • A personal statement (essay).
    • Two Teacher or Principal recommendations.
