From 12th to 14th September 2025, the 2025 Shanghai WSDC Open (Shanghai International Secondary School Parliamentary Debate Open), jointly hosted by INSPIRA and Shanghai Singapore International School (SSIS), successfully commenced in Shanghai.

Organised by Mr Loke Wing Fatt, the founder of WSDC in China, and his team, the tournament adhered fully to the standard WSDC rules in English. The adjudication panel brought together top-tier talent from around the globe – including gold-medal judges from prestigious international debate competitions such as WSDC, WSDC, WUDC, and UADC. From rule implementation to judging criteria, every aspect aligned with international standards, ensuring both professionalism and fairness in every round. The WSDC format, internationally recognised as a premier style for secondary school debating, was perfectly executed in this event.

The competition was divided into three age categories: Over 16, Under 16, and Under 14. This structure ensured a fair competitive environment while providing appropriate platforms for debaters of different age groups. Top teams from across Asia competed fiercely for top honours in their respective categories. Participants not only demonstrated strong English proficiency and deep insight into the debate topics but also forged cross-cultural friendships through interaction, truly fulfilling the event’s motto of “debating to connect, thinking to inspire.”

As an annual gathering for parliamentary debate enthusiasts, the 2025 Shanghai WSDC Open not only provided a bridge for students to engage with top international debaters but also fostered a deeper integration of critical thinking education and the cultivation of a global perspective.
Although this clash of ideas has concluded, the seeds of global awareness it planted are quietly taking root. We look forward to 2026, when this world-class debate feast sets sail once more, witnessing more young debaters shine on the global stage.

Following the success of co-hosting this event, SSIS is pleased to offer Debate ASP (After School Programme) in both English and Chinese for students.
