On 17th September, Shanghai Singapore International School welcomed a unique sports and cultural event—the opening of the “Mobile Sports Museum” campus tour! Our Grade 3 student Matthew Jiang and Grade 2 student Charlotte Zhang hosted the event seamlessly in both English and Mandarin, showcasing the confidence and poise of SSIS students.
The event featured a special visit from World Gymnastics Champion Fan Yilin, who interacted closely with our students. During the dialogue session, she shared insights from her journey to becoming a champion and answered thoughtful questions from the audience:
“How do you stay calm under pressure during competitions?”
“How has your experience as an athlete helped you in life afterwards?”
“What encouragement or advice would you give to students like us?”
Fan Yilin answered each question patiently, inspiring everyone present to pursue their passions and embrace challenges.

During the ceremony, Ms. Yao Ying, Director of the Shanghai Sports Promotion and Education Centre, and Mr. David Shirley, Head of School at SSIS, exchanged gifts as a symbol of the deepening integration of sports culture and school education. The Mobile Museum will remain on our campus for two weeks, featuring exhibits on the evolution of ancient chuiwan and modern golf.

Our Grade 5 and 6 Student Ambassadors, who also served as museum docents, had the privilege of guiding VIP guests through the mobile museum exhibits. These special visitors included SSIS parents as well as our elderly friends from Evergreen Nursing Home.

The “Mobile Sports Museum” visit was not only a cultural experience but also a meaningful encounter that touched the hearts of our students. We extend our gratitude to all guests, volunteers, staff, and students who made this event a shining example of sportsmanship at SSIS!
