Primary School News

Dear Parents,

March has been a busy and exciting month in the Primary School, filled with engaging learning experiences and activities for our students. From hands-on challenges during STEAM Week to meaningful learning in the classroom and outdoor spaces, students have had many opportunities to explore, collaborate, and think creatively. Events such as the Student-Led Conferences and our Farm-to-School Garden activities have also allowed students to reflect on their learning and share their growth with their families. It has been wonderful to see students actively participating, building new skills, and enjoying a wide range of experiences across the school community.

Farm to School Midwinter Harvest

Our Farm to School programme has been thriving this season, with students successfully growing spring onions, lettuce, and radishes in their class plots. Through planting, caring for, and harvesting their crops, students have gained a deeper understanding of where food comes from, and the effort involved in growing it.

Many students proudly took their harvest home and used the fresh ingredients to cook delicious meals for their families. It has been wonderful to see students making connections between the garden, healthy eating, and family life.

The Midwinter Harvest is a celebration of all the hard work students have put into the garden. This recognized their dedication and gave everyone an opportunity to reflect on the learning and teamwork that made the harvest possible. We are very proud of our young gardeners and look forward to the next planting season.

PEP: Supporting Language Development at Home

We were delighted to welcome parents to our recent Coffee Afternoon/Parent Education Programme, led by Ms Charlotte CHAN, our ELA Coordinator. The session focused on the important role that a child’s home language plays in supporting English development and overall academic success.

During the workshop, parents gained valuable insights into how strong foundations in a child’s first language can positively influence their ability to learn English. Ms Charlotte shared how language skills, vocabulary, and thinking developed in the home language transfer across additional languages, helping children become more confident and effective communicators.

The session also included interactive discussions, where parents had the opportunity to reflect on their own experiences, share ideas, and explore common questions around language use at home. Practical strategies were provided to support language development in everyday family life—such as engaging in meaningful conversations, reading together, and maintaining rich exposure to the home language.

Annie Jr

The students proudly presented their performance of Annie Jr., showcasing months of dedication, creativity, and teamwork. Through rehearsals and preparation, students developed their acting, singing, and dancing skills while building confidence on stage. The performance was a wonderful celebration of the students’ hard work and collaboration, and it was fantastic to see them bring the story to life for our school community. We are incredibly proud of all the students and staff who contributed to making the production such a memorable event.

STEAM Week

Our students had the opportunity to celebrate STEAM week, a time for students to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics through fun, hands-on challenges.

During lunch recess, students visited different STEAM stations set up around the school. Students received a STEAM Quest activity card to track the challenges to complete during the week.

Students had the opportunity to experiment with a variety of engaging activities, including creating and testing stretchy slime, designed hot air balloon crafts, navigated robot mazes in the STEAM Lab, and tackled engineering challenges such as building LEGO bridges and toy spinners. Creative activities were also available; students designed imaginative T-shirts and class logos, as well as explored symmetry through art and drawing.

STEAM Week is a wonderful opportunity for students to think creatively, solve problems, and collaborate with their peers.

Student of the Term

We are delighted to celebrate our Student of the Term 2 winners, who have continued to exemplify the SSIS Learner Attributes in all aspects of school life. Throughout the term, these students have demonstrated Respect, Courage, Resilience, Compassion, Empathy, Communication, Open-Mindedness, and Reflection through their actions, learning, and interactions with others.

Their consistent effort, positive mindset, and commitment to our school values make them excellent role models within our community. We are very proud of their achievements and the example they set for their peers. Congratulations to all of our deserving award recipients.
