Early Years News

Thank You, Parent Volunteers!

This month, we were excited to welcome parent volunteers into our classrooms and shared learning spaces, and their support has already made a big difference in our daily routines and enrichment efforts.

Parents have generously offered their time to assist with our Farm-to-School programme during lunch, read with students in the Primary Library, and help organise and maintain our reading room. Others have supported teachers by decorating bulletin boards, guiding small group activities, and bringing warmth and creativity into our shared spaces.

We’re so grateful for the energy, time, and care our volunteers bring to SSIS. Thank you to all the parents who have stepped in this month—and we look forward to welcoming even more of you as we continue to build our strong home–school partnership!

K2 to Grade 1 Transition: A Day of Discovery and Connection

To help our K2 students feel confident and excited about their upcoming transition to Grade 1, we recently hosted a special K2–G1 Transition Day filled with meaningful, hands-on experiences.

Students were warmly welcomed by the Grade 1 teachers and participated in a variety of activities designed to give them a taste of the year ahead. In the library, they enjoyed a retelling activity based on There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some School Supplies. We hope parents enjoyed hearing their children retell the story at home with expression and laughter!

The students also experienced lunch in the canteen for the first time, sitting with their Grade 1 buddies and proudly managing the new routine. Throughout the day, they joined in snack recess, STEAM Lab activities, classroom read-alouds, and a fun craft project.

These thoughtfully planned activities aim to create a smooth, confident, and joyful transition to Primary School, helping our youngest learners build familiarity, friendships, and excitement for the next stage in their learning journey.

International Family Bazaar: A Day of Culture, Community, and Celebration

The International Family Bazaar (IFB) was a joyful highlight of the month, bringing together students, families, and staff for a fun-filled weekend on campus. Under sunny skies and fabulous weather, our school grounds came alive with delicious international cuisine, vibrant vendor booths, and a wide range of games and activities, all made possible by the incredible efforts of the Parent Support Group (PSG), teachers, students, and grade-level teams.

It was heartwarming to see families enjoying the day together, from sharing snacks and shopping for handmade items to cheering each other on in friendly challenges. A special highlight was seeing our talented students perform on stage, joined by Instrumental Ensembles and special guest performers, lighting up the audience with music, dance, and cultural pride.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making IFB such a success! Events like this remind us of the strength and spirit of our SSIS community.

Reading Extravaganza: Journey Through the Genre Galaxy

Our Reading Extravaganza Week blasted off with excitement as the Student Council brought The Little Old Lady Who Wasn’t Afraid of Anything to life in a dynamic and entertaining performance for the entire school. Their storytelling set the stage for this year’s “Genre Galaxy” theme, transforming each classroom into a unique literary planet brimming with imagination and adventure.

The launch assembly also featured our always-popular Book Character Dress-Up Parade, with students from Family Class to Senior School proudly showcasing their creativity and love of reading.

Throughout the week, students immersed themselves in a variety of cross-curricular reading activities, deepening their literacy skills while celebrating the joy and power of storytelling across all genres.

K1 Community Helpers Unit

In Term 1, K1 Angsana explored the topic Community Helpers. As part of our Parent Volunteer Programme at SSIS, we welcomed several parents into the classroom to share about their occupations. These sessions provided rich, hands-on learning opportunities—because children learn best by doing.

Our young learners had a wonderful time stepping into different roles. They became curious scientists, creative architects, and busy mechanics, fully immersing themselves in each experience. It was a joyful and meaningful way to deepen their understanding of the people who help our community every day.
