T1W6 – 13 Oct 2023
Dear Parents and SSIS Community,
As we return from the Golden Week holiday, the Aesthetics team is in full swing as we look ahead to a very full ten weeks before the Winter Holiday. Several events and exhibitions are approaching, and we look forward to seeing our students’ creativity on display, as well as to engaging artistically with students, parents, and staff.
A Strings Opportunity
On October 27th, some of our Grade 6 strings students will take part in a multi-school orchestra festival at Shanghai American School. This is an initiative led by two second year IB students, who will conduct the orchestra in all-day rehearsals, and culminating in a concert that evening.
International Family Bazaar Performances
On November 11th we will welcome the SSIS community on campus for the International Friendship Bazaar, where all Primary school students will perform. We will also feature performances from our String Quartet and Show Band.
Talent Showcases
We will hold our first ‘Patio Jamz’ on October 19th with “Not Yet”, and our second ‘Déjeuner Shindig’ on October 20th. All student musicians, dancers, actors, magicians, etc., are encouraged to participate. Please email Mr. Hicks at michael_hicks@ssis.asia to express interest.
ISCMS (International Schools Choral Music Society) Festival
Lastly, I am excited to announce that we will be inviting students to participate in the ISCMS (International Schools Choral Music Society) Festival this coming February 21st-24th in Beijing. The festival is open to all students Grade 6-12, and will feature three days of rehearsals, culminating in a performance at the Forbidden City Concert Hall. The festival is open to international schools around the world, and will feature a full symphony orchestra, a choir, and a jazz big band. Students are required to audition for the orchestra and big band; please watch for a forthcoming letter with more details.
Musically yours,
Mr Michael Hicks
Director of Aesthetics
