Celebrating Student Learning and Leadership
SC Investiture and RAPS House Captains
At SSIS, we are committed to seeing our students take on various leadership opportunities both in school and in the community. At a recent assembly, Ms. Shireen Naidoo, Assistant Principal, spoke to students about modelling and learning about leadership through inspiration, survival and compassion.
Thereafter we celebrated our SSIS leaders through the Student Council Investiture & RAPS House Captains and Class Ambassadors. All these students had also received buddy training to mentor new students as well as attended public speaking workshops. We are so proud of these young role models who will now go out and motivate and inspire other students to lead in the many other activities and opportunities offered in senior school (from Sabres Crew to ASPs, to production to sport).
Senior School Autumn Excursions
Over the past week, our students have embraced resilience-building activities, stepping out of their comfort zones to grow and learn. The grit they have shown in these experiences will no doubt prepare them well for future challenges. We are incredibly proud of their determination and the way they continue to support each other through these experiences.
With warm regards,
Steven Gaynor
Senior School Principal
Exciting Times Ahead for Sports
Upcoming Events:
- ACAMIS Volleyball in Guangzhou for our Division 1 High School teams
- Cross River Volleyball Finals
- The beginning of SISAC Basketball (Core Season 2)
SISAC Volleyball: Volleyball continues to be our core SISAC sport, with all our teams performing exceptionally well this season. Every team has recorded a win in their fixtures so far. Our Division 1 Boys and Division 2 Girls teams are currently on track to qualify for the Cup competition, while the Division 1 Girls and Division 2 Boys will compete in the Plate competition.
SSIS will host the Division 2 Boys and Girls Plate, as well as the Division 1 Boys Plate competitions on Saturday, Oct 26. We encourage everyone to come out and support our Sabres athletes in action.
Ultimate Frisbee: We’ve seen an incredible turnout for Ultimate Frisbee, which culminated in taking a group of 21 Grade 7 and Grade 8 students to SAS Pudong. The team had a stellar performance, going unbeaten throughout the competition.
Cross Country: Our SISAC Cross Country team attended two meets this season. At the SAS meet, Akira Sugiura-Floekner delivered an incredible sprint to win gold, overtaking an SAS runner at the finish line. Nevaeh Johnson put in a strong performance just outside the medals, and Anna Takeda achieved a top-10 finish.
At the Suzhou Singapore International School Invitational, Nevaeh Johnson finished 5th in the Grade 7 and 8 girls’ competition, and in the high school division, Mikey Woodburn delivered an impressive sprint finish, moving from 8th to tie for 4th place.
ASP – Sabres Golf Team: Our first event of the year was at the SSSA Xiehe Tournament where our Boys Group A players finished 1st and 3rd. The team has shown immense progress over the year, with every student lowering their scores. Our team ranges from players as young as 8 years old to 16. This past week, the team travelled to Sun Island Kunshan for on-course training.
