Holiday Gifts from Sun Island & the PSG

To celebrate the end of term and send our students off into the winter holiday with cheer, students received thoughtful gifts on Friday, December 19th as they departed for vacation.

Our valued sister company under the Prime Group, Sun Island, generously provided gift boxes featuring Transformers and My Little Pony themes, each filled with stickers, pouches, and luggage tags. Alongside this surprise, the Parent Support Group (PSG) shared a wellness-focused treat: a four-pack of healthy squeezable yoghurt pouches for each student.

We are grateful for these kind and festive gestures that brought smiles to our students and helped them start the winter break with joy!

Santa’s Workshop: A Beloved SSIS Tradition

On December 16th and 17th, our hallways were transformed with holiday cheer as the PSG hosted the much-anticipated Santa’s Workshop. This joyful tradition brought students from Early Years through to Senior School into a festive wonderland filled with the sights, sounds, and scents of the season.

Students sipped on hot chocolate topped with marshmallows, nibbled on caramel corn and cotton candy, and explored stalls filled with seasonal goodies, from holiday headbands and small toys to cheerful decorations. The air was sweet with the scent of treats and laughter, and even Santa made a special appearance, played by our very own PSG President, delighting children with candy and warm holiday wishes.

A heartfelt thank you to all our parent volunteers who brought this magical experience to life. Your time, effort, and festive spirit help make SSIS a place of joy and lifelong memories.

Winter Magic: A Festive Evening of Community & Celebration

Our Winter Magic event was a heart-warming way for the SSIS community to come together and celebrate the winter season. Families gathered on the PAC Pitch for an evening filled with festive cheer, where the pitch transformed into a cozy winter market. Students, parents, and staff enjoyed browsing stalls filled with seasonal treats, trinkets, and games, while warming drinks and snacks added to the atmosphere.

Inside the Performing Arts Center, the opening night of Home Alone, our Senior School holiday production, captivated the audience with laughter and holiday spirit. Outside, the community sang winter carols beneath the glow of our tree lighting ceremony, led by teachers and parents alike.

This special evening truly captured the joy of the season and highlighted the strong sense of community that makes SSIS shine, both in and out of the classroom.

K2–G1 Transition & Featured Assembly

Our recent K2–G1 featured assembly was a joyful celebration of storytelling, song, and culture. Students captivated the audience with an interactive retelling of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, bringing the story to life with enthusiasm and expression. They also showcased their understanding of Chinese culture through a beautifully choreographed Beijing Opera mask dance, full of colour and rhythm. After the performance, parents joined their children for hands-on storytelling activities—cutting, pasting, playing games, and retelling the story together. These activities offered families a meaningful way to engage in both play and academics. To close the event, Mr Rampton and  Ms Draut spoke about key features of the K2–G1 transition, sharing how our school is supporting children and parents alike through this important milestone.

Early Years Choir

This holiday season, our wonderful K2-G2 choir truly became beacons of festive cheer, carrying their musical light far and wide. With beaming smiles and heartfelt enthusiasm, they delighted audiences across our community in a remarkable series of performances for “Lighting up the Tree.”

Their joyful voices echoed through the grand halls of the Shanghai JW Marriott Hotel Jingan and the InterContinental Shanghai Jingan, brought warmth and connection to the Evergreen Senior Activity Center in Minhang, and added a magical touch to the Singapore Chamber of Commerce’s “Warm Winter Journey” event at PAC Mall. Of course, they also shone brightly on our very own school stage.

Through beloved classics like “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Over the River and Through the Woods,” our young choristers did more than just sing, they spread immense joy and tangible warmth, reminding everyone of the season’s true spirit. We are incredibly proud of their dedication, talent, and the generous hearts they shared with every note.

Bravo to our amazing choir for a truly spectacular season of song.

100th Day of School

On January 27, we marked the 100th Day of School with excitement, creativity, and hands-on learning. Students came dressed as 100-year-olds, filling the halls with grey wigs, walking canes, and plenty of giggles. In the gym, the event committee and Student Council led the 100 Cups Challenge, where each class worked as a team to design and build a structure using exactly 100 cups. The activity wasn’t just fun, it integrated STEAM learning, encouraging students to explore balance, force, and design through creative problem-solving and collaboration.

The challenge also served as a springboard for valuable soft skills. Working under time pressure, students practiced communication, resilience, and teamwork as they adapted strategies and learned from collapsed towers. Teachers and judges emphasized the importance of process over product, celebrating innovation, recovery, and cooperation just as much as final results. Our 100th day celebration showcased not only academic growth, but also the joyful spirit of community and shared achievement that defines our school.
