Dear Parents,
As we begin the new year, we would like to wish all our families a very Happy New Year and thank you for your continued support. December and January have been vibrant and joyful months in our Primary School, highlighted by two wonderful community events. Our very first Eco Fashion Show, where students showcased creativity with a strong message of sustainability, and our Winter Talent Show, which celebrated confidence, courage, and a wide range of student talents. Looking ahead, we also warmly wish our families a Happy Chinese New Year in February. May the Year of the Horse bring your family health, happiness, and success!
Grade 4 Eco Fashion Show – Creativity with Purpose!
We launched our very first Grade 4 Eco Fashion Show. During their Visual Art lessons, the Grade 4 students worked with great enthusiasm, following a full design process that involved careful planning, sketching, testing, refining, and problem-solving. They created original, wearable costumes entirely from recycled and upcycled materials, learning that Visual Art is not just about the final product, but about thinking creatively, experimenting, and improving ideas step by step.
Every costume is completely student-designed and student-made, with each piece uniquely inspired by nature; forests, oceans, plants, animals, and natural textures. Beyond fashion, this project helped students see how discarded materials can be transformed into something meaningful, while also connecting strongly to UN Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. Through this experience, our Grade 4 learners are growing as both young artists and responsible global citizens, using creativity and thoughtful design to inspire positive change.
We would like to thank Ms Nidhi Sharma and HKRI Taikoo for their support and prizes for the winners.

Winter Talent Show
Our Winter Talent Show was a joyful celebration of student creativity, confidence, and courage. Students took to the stage to share a wide variety of talents, including music, dance, drama, and other unique performances, showing not only skill but also a willingness to step outside their comfort zones. The event highlighted the importance of self-expression and perseverance, and it was wonderful to see students supporting and encouraging one another. We are incredibly proud of all participants for their enthusiasm, effort, and bravery in making the Winter Talent Show such a memorable experience for our school community.

Santa’s Workshop: A Beloved SSIS Tradition
On December 16th and 17th, our hallways were transformed with holiday cheer as the PSG hosted the much-anticipated Santa’s Workshop. This joyful tradition brought students from Early Years through to Senior School into a festive wonderland filled with the sights, sounds, and scents of the season.
Students sipped hot chocolate topped with marshmallows, nibbled on caramel corn and cotton candy, and explored stalls filled with seasonal goodies, from holiday headbands and small toys to cheerful decorations. The air was sweet with the scent of treats and laughter, and even Santa made a special appearance, played by our very own PSG President, delighting children with candy and warm holiday wishes.
A heartfelt thank you to all our parent volunteers who brought this magical experience to life. Your time, effort, and festive spirit help make SSIS a place of joy and lifelong memories.

How the Student of the Term is Chosen
To ensure the Student of the Term award is fair, transparent, and truly reflective of our Learner Attributes, we follow a clear and consistent process across all classes. Each class will have two Student of the Term awardees for Terms 1 & 2. Form Teachers first nominate four students who have consistently demonstrated the 8 Learner Attributes throughout the term.
Subject teachers then use a shared rubric to score these nominated students across their lessons, with a maximum score of 40 per subject. Form and Co-Form Teachers also contribute their scores once subject teachers have completed theirs.
When all scores are finalised, the principal reviews and vets the results, following up with Homeroom Teachers if clarification is needed. This process helps ensure the award recognises students who consistently model our values across all areas of school life.

Celebrating 100 Days of Learning
The 27th January marked 100 days of school! Our 100 Cups Challenge was a highlight, transforming the gym into a space for teamwork and innovation. Each class collaborated to build a single structure using 100 cups. This was hands-on learning in action. Students applied STEAM skills, exploring stability, math, and creative problem-solving, while practicing essential life skills like collaboration and resilience. Students had to practice quick decision-making and adaptation skills as they were under time pressure to complete the structure. Our teachers celebrated the process; teamwork, planning, and perseverance as much as the final product. Events like this make learning visible, showing how growth happens through curiosity, collaboration, and reflection every day.
