T3W1 – 28 Mar 2025
Dear SSIS Parents,
Another outstanding month of student learning, achievements and grit building challenges for our students. Last month our theme of resilience—and the ability to bounce back from setbacks—has been echoed across assemblies, classrooms, and extracurricular activities.
In our recent assembly, I shared just how awestruck I’ve been by the commitment and courage our students have displayed. Whether on stage, in the pool, behind the scenes, or in our science labs, their achievements have been exceptional. As we start term 3 it’s the perfect time to pause, reflect, and celebrate how far out students have come this academic year.
I encourage each parent to ask their child
- What moment made me feel most proud this term?
- What challenges did they overcome, and how have they grown?
- What new insights or friendships have they gained?
- What will they carry with them into Term 3?

Grease: A Musical to Remember!
A huge standing ovation for the cast, crew, and staff behind this year’s Senior School production of Grease! With dazzling performances, heartfelt vocals, and high-energy choreography, I believe it was our best musical yet. It was a true showcase of student talent and teamwork, both on stage and behind the scenes. Congratulations to all involved!
Senior School Arts Evening & IBDP Art Exhibition
Our annual Arts Evening was a vibrant celebration of student creativity. From performances to the unveiling of the IBDP Visual Arts Exhibition, the event highlighted the importance of aesthetic learning in an AI-driven world. Due to popular demand, the exhibition will remain open during Saturday’s Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences (SPTC). We warmly invite families to explore and appreciate our students’ outstanding work
Junior ACAMIS Swim Meet: A Village Effort
Last weekend, we proudly hosted the largest Junior ACAMIS event to date, welcoming over 1,000 students, coaches, and parents from across the region. It was a phenomenal display of teamwork, hospitality, and school spirit. A heartfelt thank you to every student, parent, and staff member who helped make this event such a success. It truly took the SSIS village to come together and support each other
Grade 8 Science Fair: Inquiry Meets Innovation
This week, our Grade 8 students put their scientific knowledge into action at the Science Fair, applying classroom concepts to real-world questions. Their enthusiasm for inquiry and experimentation was impressive. We encourage all families attending this weekend’s conferences to take a stroll through the Science Fair boards on display in the gym.
Looking Ahead: International Friendship Day & Grade 7 Intercultural Fair
Mark your calendars for Friday, Apr 11, when we’ll come together for International Friendship Day (IFD). With cultural showcases, food stalls, and the Grade 7 Intercultural Fair, this celebration promises to be a joyful reminder of our diverse and inclusive SSIS family.
Guidance for Parents – Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences (SPTCs) Saturday Mar 29
At SSIS, we value student voice and ownership of learning. Our Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences (SPTCs) are designed to give students the opportunity to reflect on their progress and take an active role in setting goals for the term ahead.
What to Expect:
- Your child will begin the conference by sharing their reflections on Term 2—what they’ve learned, what they’re proud of, and what they’ve found challenging.
- They will also set one or two personal goals for Term 3.
- After your child speaks, the teacher will provide feedback and offer additional insights into their academic and personal development.
- The conference will close with a collaborative conversation to agree on next steps and how we can support your child together.
How You Can Support:
- Encourage your child to speak honestly about their learning—celebrate their successes and acknowledge areas for growth.
- Ask questions like:
- “What are you most proud of this term?”
- “What’s one thing you’d like to improve next term?”
- “How can we support you at home?”
- Feel free to share your own observations or ask the teacher any questions you may have.
- Ensure you can access your child’s grades and progress via ManageBac—ask us if you need help.
These conferences are about partnership—between school, home, and student—and your presence plays a key role in your child’s learning journey.
With gratitude,
Mr Steven Gaynor
Senior School Principal
