Primary School News

T1W2 – 8 Sept 2023

Dear Parents,

Dear Parents,

What an incredible start to the new academic year it has been! I am thrilled to see our students and teachers back in the classrooms, ready to embark on another year of learning and growth. I wanted to take a moment to share some highlights from our first week together.

First and foremost, I am delighted to inform you that all our teachers have taken the time to discuss and create classroom rules and expectations. These guidelines will not only help create a valuable learning environment but will also be shared with all parents. By sharing these expectations, we can work together to develop a rich and supportive learning community where every student can thrive.

In today’s digital age, it is crucial that we prioritize cybersafety and ensure our children understand the importance of following the ICT usage agreement. As parents, please take the time to discuss this topic with your child and help them navigate the complexities of the connected cyber community. By working together, we can ensure their online experiences are safe and positive.

I would also like to take a moment to commend our students on their impeccable uniform presentation. It is heartwarming to see our students wearing their school uniform with pride. By wearing our uniform correctly, we foster a sense of belonging and identity within our school community. Keep up the fantastic work, Primary students!

Parents, please keep an eye out for the weekly handwritten messages in your child’s student diaries. Our dedicated Primary teachers will be identifying and acknowledging the positive contributions that all students make. These reports will be shared with you via the student planner. Additionally, teachers will sign the planner each day, and we kindly request that parents also sign it each night. This open line of communication is vital in ensuring your child’s success.

Lastly, I want to express my utmost joy in witnessing our students happily saying good morning and afternoon to our staff members. This simple act of respect and kindness is an integral part of building positive and respectful relationships within our school community. It warms my heart to receive so many greetings each day.

As we reflect on our first week together, I am filled with gratitude for the enthusiasm and dedication shown by our students, parents, and staff. I am confident that this academic year will be filled with growth, learning, and memorable experiences.

Please read about leadership opportunities and camps information below:

Providing students with opportunities to develop their leadership skills is a critical part of their development. Throughout the year, every student will have the opportunity to further strengthen their leadership skills through numerous responsibilities (line leaders, technology monitors, teacher assistants etc).

Upper grade students will also be able to apply for more formal positions such as Student Council and House Captains. These positions allow students to have a voice and implement initiatives to strengthen the primary division.

Developing student’s leadership skills, allows them to;

  • Learn important life skills in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Learn how to make friends and influence people.
  • Foster team building skills.
  • Prepare for life in the workplace.
  • Be exposed to new experiences they are not aware of.
  • Manage interpersonal relationships.
  • Feel more confident.

We are excited to be heading back to Peng Lai for the grade 6 Leadership Development Camp. Between the 18 – 20th October, grade 6 students will be engaged in hands-on activities to learn about marine ecology, animal adaptations, the wine-making process, and organic farming. They will also take part in team-building activities to strengthen their leadership skills.

Grades 4 & 5 will also be involved in a camp-like experience where they can further develop their leadership skills. Grades 1 – 3 will venture off-campus to engage in hands-on learning outside of the classroom. Camps and excursions provide students with practical knowledge, develops their aesthetic sense and enriches their learning.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we will make this year a resounding success!

Stronger Together,

Mr David Shirley (Head of School & Primary School Principal)

Mr Tony Rampton (Primary School Assistant Principal)
