End of IBDP Examinations and Prom

To mark the end of their IBDP examinations, our Grade 12 students celebrated in style with a Prom Night boat cruise along The Bund—a perfect setting to reflect, rejoice, and look ahead. Held on Saturday May 24, it was a warm, golden evening that offered a stunning backdrop for creating lasting memories as our seniors near the end of their learning journey at SSIS.

We now look forward to officially honouring the Class of 2024 at the Graduation and Dinner Ceremony on Friday June 6.

Sports Awards Evening: A Night of Champions

Our annual Sports Awards Evening, held on Friday May 23, was a vibrant celebration of determination, discipline, and true Sabre spirit. We honoured outstanding athletes, inspiring team captains, and those who led with heart, humility, and resilience.

Whether on the football field, track, court, or in the pool, our student-athletes have demonstrated exceptional growth, perseverance, and sportsmanship throughout the year.

A heartfelt thank you goes to our dedicated coaches, PE staff, and supportive parents—your guidance and encouragement continue to make a lasting impact.

Congratulations to all award winners—and to every student who proudly wore a jersey and gave their best this year!

Showcases of Learning, Service and Appreciation

My IB Core Journey – Grade 11 Reflection Showcase
On Wednesday May 14, Grade 11 students shared their CAS experiences and reflections on Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay. The event showcased the heart of the IB programme—developing students as thinkers, inquirers, and principled young adults. Parents and peers were inspired by the maturity and insight on display.

Teacher Appreciation Lunch
On Wednesday May 21, our Parent Support Group (PSG) hosted a beautiful Teacher Appreciation Lunch. It was a warm, delicious, and deeply appreciated gesture of gratitude. A heartfelt thank you to all the parents for the amazing food and thoughtful gifts—it truly meant the world to our teachers.

Grade 8 Sabres Service & Enrichment Journey
On Monday May 26, our Grade 8 students proudly showcased their service projects and personal reflections from a range of enrichment experiences—including Sabres Buddies, Duke of Edinburgh training, and cooking for life skills. The event was the culmination of months of planning, learning, and personal growth.

Through thoughtful presentations and creative displays, students demonstrated how small acts of service, leadership, and skill-building can make a meaningful impact—not only on their community, but on their own development as confident, compassionate individuals.

Chinese Starlight Debate
On Friday May 23, we proudly hosted local schools for the Chinese Starlight Debate, where our Grade 8 debaters impressed with their sharp reasoning, articulate delivery, and confident presence. Their ability to engage with complex ideas in a debate format was impressive.Events like these remind us that language and culture are powerful tools—not just for communication, but for building confidence, fostering connection, and developing the leaders of tomorrow.

End of Year Examinations

Grade 9 and 11 students are currently in the middle of their end-of-year exams, while Grade 7 and 8 students begin theirs next week. Thank you for supporting your children in maintaining a calm, balanced routine—prioritising sleep, effective revision, and moments of rest.

Let’s continue to remind our learners that these exams are not just tests of memory, but important checkpoints in their learning—designed to consolidate knowledge and deepen understanding.

G6-G7 Transition Events: Welcoming our New Leaders

On Thursday May 29, we welcomed families to the G6–G7 Parent Transition Meeting, followed by Student Transition Activities on Friday May 30. These events are designed to ensure a smooth, confident, and well-informed transition into Senior School.

Both students and parents had the opportunity to meet key staff, learn about new routines and expectations, and get an exciting first look at the opportunities that lie ahead.

We’re thrilled to welcome our newest Senior School students—our future leaders—as they begin this important new chapter at SSIS.

A Note of Gratitude

As we approach the end of the academic year, I want to thank you—our parents—for your partnership, support, and belief in the importance of an academically rigorous, holistic, and values-driven education.

The real joy of this year has come not just from achievements, but from watching our students grow in confidence, kindness, and curiosity.

We look forward to celebrating together at Graduation and Prize Giving, and to sending our students into the summer ready for rest, reflection, and all the new experiences that await.

Warm regards,

Mr Steven Gaynor
