Dear Parents and SSIS Community,
Happy New Year! I hope this finds you well, and I hope that 2024 brings you and your loved ones much health, happiness, and prosperity.
December was a busy month for the Aesthetics department. We saw our DP Visual Art students display their fantastic artwork in the multi-purpose room to rave reviews. The pieces reflected students’ most personal thoughts and feelings, and were remarkable in their breadth and scope, as well as in how they demonstrated the level of maturity our young artists have achieved so early in their lives.
We also saw many students take the stage for our Primary and Senior Winter Shows, as well as for our Winter Concert, which featured the SSIS Combined Choir, the SSIS Show Band, and the SSIS Combined Orchestra.

Highlight from Ms. Deeksha’s Visual Art classes:
Grade 8 students have started a new unit in Visual Arts where they are researching a Mauritian artist, Vaco Baissac. Students have to analyze one of his very brightly coloured artworks using the 7 elements of art and applying knowledge of art-specific vocabulary, such as colour theory and composition. This unit allows students to not only appreciate Baissac’s unique style but also develop their own artistic skills and understanding of the creative process. By studying his work, students can gain a deeper appreciation for the cultural significance of art in Mauritius and its ability to convey emotions and stories. One example of a student’s work:
Please keep the date: March 7th and 8th the Senior Drama ASP led by Ms. Tria will perform the classic story of Romeo and Juliet. We are very much looking forward to what is sure to be an amazing show.
Lastly, our SSIS Combined Orchestra will perform at the Chinese New Year Senior show on February 2nd from 2:30-3:30pm in the PAC.
