T1W6 – 13 Oct 2023
Dear Parents,
In a world that often focuses on fixing weaknesses, let us take a moment to recognise the power of strength-based parenting. By identifying and nurturing our children’s strengths, we can empower them to reach their full potential, while also helping them develop their lesser strengths.
This should be an easy task for parents at SSIS because I truly believe that every student here possesses unique talents and abilities that are waiting to be discovered and nurtured and by shifting our focus from what they lack to what they excel at, we can foster a sense of confidence and resilience within them. When we celebrate their strengths, we send a powerful message that they are valued for who they are, rather than what they lack.
Strength-based parenting not only allows our children to flourish in their areas of expertise but also encourages them to explore new things. By helping them develop their lesser strengths, we equip them with the tools to overcome challenges and adapt to new situations with confidence.
As parents, this week, I encourage you to take some time and talk to your child about what you believe are their strengths are and how these strengths make you feel as a parent. By emphasizing their strengths, you will instil a sense of belief in their abilities and foster resilience in the face of adversity.
Together, we can create a school where every child is empowered to shine and strive for excellence.
Have a great week.
Stronger Together,
Mr. Shirley
This year we will have bi-weekly assemblies and the format will be different from previous years. All grade levels will be responsible for an assembly throughout the year. These assemblies will showcase the talents of our students in each of the grade levels. We will also have our usual Student of the Term and other specialised assemblies.
Another initiative that will be introduced this year will be class certificates. Two students from each class will be recoginised for something outstanding they have done within the classroom. These students will be presented with their certificates on stage during the assembly.
Parents will be invited to attend the assemblies and celebrate their children’s successes.
