Learning in action: Bringing storytelling outdoors

8th grade English students geared up for their “Art of Storytelling” unit  with some real life connections.

In preparation to read Jack London’s “To Build a Fire”, Mr. MJ asked students if they could survive in the wilderness. Students used critical thinking skills to build a shelter and pack essential supplies. They will later debate whether knowledge or experience is more important in a survival situation.

At SSIS, our innovative teachers help students open the door to a world of learning experiences both within and beyond the classroom.
