T1W9 – 28 Oct 2022
Dear Families,
Hope you are staying safe and enjoying the lovely autumn weather. Preschool is full of laughter and questions as we wrap up the second month of the school year.
This week our Preschoolers had a blast exploring and enjoying the sights and sounds of autumn for the Autumn Excursions. Our visits to Evergreen City farm were wonderful opportunities of hands-on, authentic learning.
Pre-Nursery and Nursery students enjoyed harvesting vegetables, feeding the farm animals and discussing colors and shapes found on the farm.
Our K1 and K2 learners enjoyed the experimental learning of picking vegetables.
As part of their unit of inquiry on Community Helpers, K1 students also had many questions for the farmers about their responsibilities and tools.
K2 students investigated the countries that the animals belong to and discussed whether they are omnivores, carnivores or herbivores. This was part of their inquiry on “Countries and Cultures”.
We encourage our students to inquire and collaborate. As educators, it is vital we do the same. This past weekend I had the privilege of presenting at the ACAMIS Early Childhood Education Conference. I discussed Early Childhood language development and the role of play in supporting these important foundational years.
Have a lovely weekend!
Kind Regards,
Sonia Barghani, Ed.D.
